Objective

Darlow Smithson Productions is a multi-award winning company producing high quality factual programmes for broadcasters worldwide, with a focus on ambitious docu-dramas, series and documentaries for theatrical release.

They have produced more than 150 hours of high quality factual programming for the BBC, Channel 4 and Five in the UK, and for leading international broadcasters including PBS, National Geographic, HBO, Discovery, TLC, Discovery Health, and The History Channel in the United States. Many of the programmes have become best-sellers in the international television market.

Support Partners was engaged in 2004 to design and implement installations and workflows that would cut down on internal and external post production resources

Solution

In-house post production was migrated across to a largely Apple-based platform with a shared storage resource (10 edit suites and a 35TB SANmp). Support Partners also implemented and trained Darlow Smithson personnel in CatDV as a logging and pre-edit solution for Producers and Directors to better prepare for upcoming edits.

The solution has permitted a culling of ingested material and allows the editors to work in a single-ingest capacity, maintaining full resolution throughout the picture cut and through to digital delivery without a re-conform.

We continue to provide off- and on-site support, as well as an advanced ScreenShare remote control support solution that allows our specialists to remotely access editing systems to troubleshoot for application or hardware issues.
