The Edge Picture Company uses digital technology to speed up the production process
Support Partners, digital production consultancy and support specialists, have been working with The Edge Picture Company, one of UK’s most awarded corporate agencies, for over three years. Support Partners originally set up an in-house editing and web-delivery solution to manage content and to deliver workflow efficiencies within the business.

The Edge has to deliver productions in a variety of file-based formats to its many clients; Support Partners’ brief was to recommend and deploy a solution to speed up a process that would otherwise be convoluted and time consuming.

The solution was Telestream’s Episode Engine, a server-based transcoding solution. Support Partners integrated this into the Edge’s in-house Final Cut Pro editing facility.

Only a few months in and The Edge has seen immediate benefits and realised a return on their investment. Transcoding is faster and automation means that it can happen out-of-hours and the process can be kept in-house. As the solution is server-based, it means other edit systems are not tied up in the transcoding process and that they can be used for their primary purpose - editing.

“It requires some planning and expertise at the configuration stage, but we’re already seeing the benefits”, says Pete Burrows who manages The Edge’s production clients and its facility.

“We’ve been using it with both our P2 and Red workflows. The key thing for me is that transcoding is fast and automated and in speeding up the production process, content can be delivered to clients and signed off much more quickly. Bringing this in-house is also saving us money.”
